    The University of Queensland developed a program where students summarize their research in 3 minutes or less, using pre-determined guidelines.Click here to view winning presentations from around the globe.Clemson University's Graduate Student Government and the Graduate School co-hosted Clemson’s first 3MT competition in April 2014 as one of the premier events of the University’s first Research and Innovation Month.This year there were two second place winners who each received a $250 cash prize.Developed by The University of Queensland (UQ), the exercise cultivates students’ academic, presentation, and research communication skills.Students participating in 3MT have three minutes to give a presentation based on their thesis.Founded by the University of Queensland in 2008, the popularity of the competition has steadily increased and 3MT competitions are now held in over 350 universities across 59 countries worldwide.The following workshops will be provided throughout the 2016-2017 year to assist participants in creating and practicing their presentations Friday September 9th, -pm Kettler 117 Friday October 21st, -pm Kettler 117 Saturday November 12th, 1-3pm Neff 101 Friday January 13th, -6pm Kettler 117 Friday February 3rd, -6pm Kettler 117 Friday February 24th, -pm Neff 101 Friday March 3rd, -pm Neff 101 Three Minute Thesis (3MT™) is a research communication competition developed by The University of Queensland.The Graduate College is happy to announce its first Research in Focus competition.Each entrant was judged on delivery and content by a panel of judges that included staff, faculty, and community members. Competition was so fierce that there was a tie for 1st place and a tie for 3rd.Register online by Wednesday 23 August Refreshments will be served before and after the presentations.

    A People's Choice Award was also selected by the audience at the competition.3MT™ is not an exercise in trivializing or ‘dumbing-down’ research, but challenges students to consolidate their ideas and research discoveries so they can be presented concisely to a non-specialist audience.The competition cultivates student’s academic, presentation, and research communication skills, and helps graduate students to effectively explain their research in a language appropriate to a non-specialist audience.The competition will run from to * and lunch will be provided.Participants have just three minutes and one slide to present compelling oration on their thesis or dissertation topic and its significance.Research in Focus invites students to submit entries consisting of an image and brief text that articulates how the image relates to the research.Preliminary rounds are scheduled for October 18, 19, 20 at 12pm.See the University of Queensland's 3MT(c) page for more information.Participating in the Graduate College’s public scholarship competitions helps students develop communication skills, allows them to share and take pride in their work, and offers the chance to compete for prizes. ELIGIBILITY: Participants must be currently enrolled in or recent graduates (within one calendar year) of a Masters or Ph D degree program that requires the student to conduct their own research.The Three Minute Thesis competition or 3MT, is an annual competition held in over 200 universities worldwide.
